FISHERMEN’S OBSERVATIONS

FV TRIONFO - Fisherman’s Observation 10/5/22

That night we were out for anchovies and encountered huge schools of sardines, running in a straight line. We could not get out of them. There was a glow in the water that made it easy to spot. As we neared them, it reminded me of the old days when I was a young man on my dad’s seiner out of San Pedro. Monterey is an amazing bay. Some nights it is loaded with sardines, then nothing. Then anchovies move in, then nothing, and suddenly out of nowhere the bay is full of sardines again.

FV PROVIDER – Fisherman’s Observation 2/10/23

I found a school [in S.CA.] of approximately 150-200 tons and cut out a small piece. I caught about 40 tons. We sacked up with the corks underwater to let the excess fish swim out.

(Note: This EFP project recommended that biological samples be limited to about 10 tons if possible.)
